Water Heating

Here you are required to enter the details of the water heating system. The water heating can come from several sources; the main heating system, a separate immersion cylinder, an instantaneous electric, a CHP unit or solar panels.

If the water heating runs off the main heating system then select ‘From main heating system’ from the Hot Water System menu (Fig 1).

If you have a thermal store or cylinder then you will have enter the specification (Fig 2). Once all the required information has been enter then the red ! will disappear.

If the water heating is part of a community heating system then only the community scheme details are required and all of the other boxes will be greyed out (Fig 3).

Solar Panels

When there is contribution to water heating from solar panels then you will need to click ‘Solar Panel Details’ and check the ‘Solar Panel Present’ box (Fig 4).

There is a choice of three types of solar panels available from the ‘Collector Type’ menu:

  • Evacuated tube
  • Flat plate, glazed
  • Unglazed

When selecting one of the above, the worst case performance figures will be entered automatically. These figures are taken from the SAP 2005 methodology. If you know the manufacturers details then you can override them by checking the ‘Override Default Values’.

The remaining information refers to the orientation, tilt of collector, shading and cylinder volume.
